Our Story

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh! 
I am Jessica. Founder of Fitra Haven. 
I am also a French Canadian revert. I have 4 daughters which I homeschool, Alhamdoulillah! We focus our homeschool around Islam and place Allah, the Qur'an and the teachings of our beloved prophet (May peace and blessings be upon him) at the centre of our education. 

Throughout our homeschool journey, I came across many Islamic resources, blogs, curriculums, books etc. geared towards young children and towards homeschoolers. These resources were designed to teach children about Islam. 

My deception with a lot of the resources I came across was how dry the material was. I wanted to create something for my children that wasn't dry, emotionally detached, boring or  just busy work without much results in teaching them effectively. I wanted them to be as engaged in learning about Islam as they would be while playing and drawing and reading picture books. 

So here we are with the Fitra Haven project. 
Fitra Haven is committed to producing and distributing quality resources for children that will ignite a passion and deep connection with their Lord and Islam as a whole. We do not believe in rote learning at a young age. In other words, we believe young children learn best when they are emotionally attached and interested to the subject matter. We believe that as parents, our priority is to ignite this intense love and appreciation of Allah and Islam in our children before , or at the same time, as we try to teach them facts, dos and don'ts etc. We believe children who are passionate and excited about Islam, will learn naturally and quickly and have a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Allah in the years to come in sha Allah. 

Critics would say that childhood is the time when kids are like sponges and they do not have the capacity to ponder and reflect but they have the capacity to memorize things that do not mean much to them. Nevertheless, we would kindly disagree. Children's fitrah make them perfect candidates for comprehending the true nature of Allah, and for connecting with deep emotions to the Qur'an and sunnah if they are beautifully guided by benevolent, well-intentioned adults. We need to believe in them and see them as whole human beings who have the capacity to develop a strong love and understanding of their deen very early on. This love will be the base of all learning that can and will happen when they are older. This love will, in sha Allah, be the foundation of their Fitra Haven.
